Germany's 3,391 tons of gold earn it the number two spot on the list, according to the World Gold Council. The Bundesbank recently made headlines when it announced that it was transferring over 600 tons of gold stored in the U.S. and France back to Germany, ending a Cold War-era practice designed to keep its massive gold reserves out of easy reach of the Soviet Union.
