The Women of Breaking Bad: Feminist IR

Skyler White played by Anna Gunn and Walter

The world of "Breaking Bad" is one in which the powerful are almost all male, and the women are forced to play the game the way the men in charge have constructed it. Skyler White is forced to compromise her ethics to help the family and keep Walt's secret safe, Hank needs Marie after he is traumatized and then shot, Jane is partially a victim of Jesse's world and Andrea is initially just someone he's trying to sell drugs to. Even the women of Gus Fring's universe exist as a low-wage front for a larger, more sinister enterprise.

The complexity of Feminist IR studies is too great to summarize adequately here, but highlighting the role that gender relations and patriarchy play in world politics has been an extremely important contribution to International Relations.
