Afghans Anxious as Pre-Election Violence Spreads
The US and Afghan governments are reeling from the Taliban's wave of new violence in both the north and west of the country - areas that have remained somewhat pacific during the 8 year war. This violence comes before a critical Presidential election which some fear could split the country along Pashtun/Tajik ethnic lines. Still, other reports indicate the Taliban might agree to a ceasefire in the South to allow elections in relative peace.
