How PM Yingluck Shinawatra First Heard of the 2014 Thai Coup

|

YINGLUCK SHINAWATRA: When the coup happened on May 22, some people called to tell me there was a coup!

At first, we couldn't believe it.

So we called to check and found out my cabinet members and some leaders of the opposition who were actually meeting to find a solution for the nation had all been arrested.

A little while later, the "National Council for Peace and Order" released an order then I knew there was a coup.

I stayed at home the whole time. I never thought of fleeing anywhere.

The next day, a group of representatives from the NCPO came to summon me to report to them.

I was an elected prime minister, yet I was called in by the NCPO to report myself in.

But we had to go to avoid conflict or violence.

So I went in to report to them and then I went back home on the same evening.
