Michael Hayden: Trump Is a "Clear and Present Danger," "I Fear for Our Future"

|

In an appearance on CNN with Jake Tapper to discuss the letter penned by 50 national security experts including himself opposing Donald Trump, former CIA and NSA Director and retired General Michael Hayden didn't mince words when it came to the Republican nominee. The quotes below come toward the end of the video, but Hayden said earlier that Trump is "out of his element, but forever confident, not always fact-based, not always experienced, but always very, very confident" and that "he does not seem to have a curiosity [or] a willingness to learn."

MICHAEL HAYDEN: Look, we gotta call balls and strikes the way we see them, alright? We all felt strongly enough about what we believe to be a clear and present danger, that we felt compelled to say what we said...

JAKE TAPPER: You just called Donald Trump a clear and present danger.

MICHAEL HAYDEN: Well, if he governs in any way close to the language that he has used in the campaign, I fear for our future.

General Hayden also responds to a comment Donald Trump made at a rally where he seemed to invoke a "Second Amendment solution" to prevent the election of Hillary Clinton. According to him, if anyone else had said what Trump had said, "he'd be in the back of a police wagon now with the Secret Service questioning him."
