Nightlife in Tehran

 

TEHRAN — While the past few nights of pre-election demonstrations may represent the biggest public display of political expression in the history of the Islamic Republic, deciphering what that actually means for Friday’s presidential election, or for Iran, is proving quite difficult.

The nightly demonstrations have had a carnival-like air. After so long without an outlet, Tehran’s youth are coming out en masse. Small business owners are taking advantage of the situation, selling refreshments to moisten throats hoarse from so much shouting.
