The 2009 Great Iranian Revolution has a lot in common with its earlier 1979 version.
The students and middle-class youth are the engine of the movement and, rich or poor, are putting their lives at stake. As in 1979, the revolution has targeted the entire system. The slogans are now all directed at the Islamic Republic and its Supreme Leader. The ruling elite are at each other's throats. Divisions within the armed forces are visible. Millions of people are ecstatically participating and bravely confronting the armed forces with nonviolent tactics. And finally, the U.S. media and academics, the so-called Iran experts, refuse to call it a revolution--this is how you know you're having one!
