The government of Turkey is making smart moves, which in turn promise greater stability in the Middle East. During the Carter Administration, National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski referred to the broad geographic crescent linking Southeast and Southwest Asia as the “Arc of Crisis,” implying early sensitivity to today's very apparent challenge of extremist strains of Islamic fundamentalism. Turkey's very positive initiatives have direct bearing throughout this broad region.
