Shortly after Fatah held its last party congress, in 1989, the man who was once the world’s most wanted terrorist did the Palestinian movement a massive favour.
Abu Nidal, who had split with Fatah 15 years earlier, invited 22 leaders of his own, rival organisation to his home to discuss “policy matters”. When they got there, he killed them, dragged their bodies into the garden and covered them in liquid concrete. He continued the purge by having a fifth of his membership executed.
