WTO Cracks Down on Chinese Counterfeiting

The U.S. has prevailed before the WTO panel on numerous claims that China has failed to fulfill many of the commitments it made to provide market access to copyrighted goods and services from the U.S. when the Chinese joined the WTO.

With this verdict in hand, American copyright holders and producers will be able to penetrate, and to compete, much more successfully in the rapidly growing Chinese market. And, with implementation proceeding in an earlier decision this year in a companion case in the WTO, they should be able to do so with greater assurance that their intellectual property rights will be respected in the Chinese marketplace.
