Back to work. This morning Gordon Brown returned to his desk, pencils sharpened and action plan mapped out. The Prime Minister's long semi-holiday is over, and the election starts here. Mr Brown ought to be feeling optimistic as he surveys an in-tray stacked with economic issues. Tomorrow, in his first major domestic engagement since his summer break began, he will address a summit in the Midlands at which he will urge business leaders to offer jobs to young people.
