After a six-year trial, the former Zambian President Frederick Chiluba was acquitted on corruption charges on Aug. 17. A few days later, the Zambian government decided not to renew the contract of the Corruption Task Force chairman, Maxwell Nkole.

For all intents and purposes, Mr. Nkole was fired. His crime: He filed an appeal against the dubious judgment that had acquitted Mr. Chiluba on all counts of embezzling public funds amounting to $500,000.
