The United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday set the stage for more powerful UN bodies to focus on a slew of war crimes allegations against Israel, endorsing a report it commissioned on last winter's Israeli assault on Gaza.
The Geneva-based body called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to make sure the UN Security Council gets involved, and also said the 192-member General Assembly should take up the file. A coalition of Arab, Muslim and leftist-run Latin American countries in the 47-member Council were responsible for more than half of the 25 votes in favour of the resolution, which makes a series of demands on Israel, but none on the Palestinians.
