Imagine if, on the eve of the Second Vatican Council, some young monk's conscience got the better of him and he leaked to the world the fact that the Catholic church had been hiding the actual Earthly skeleton of Jesus of Nazareth.
The council "” the 1960s gathering of theologians to update Catholic theology and liturgy "” would have been thrown into disarray.
The Resurrection is the central mystery of the Christian faith and if, suddenly, Christ's bones were found, well, that would prove that he was a mere mortal.
It would prove that Christians had been worshiping a fake.
It wouldn't matter that most people had never heard of the Office of the Ossuary or whatever Vatican agency was in charge of keeping things quiet. The fact the teachings of the Church had been debunked would be all delegates could talk about.
That's because the council was about theology.
The proof that the current climate summit in Copenhagen is not about environment and science, but rather about politics and ideology, can be seen in that fact that two weeks ago, some young computer programmer's conscience got the better of him and he released computer code and emails exposing the skeleton of climate change. Yet almost no one in Copenhagen is talking about it.
It doesn't matter that almost no one outside the climate change industry had heard of the Climate Research Unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia before the release. The CRU's centrality to the mystery of Eco faith is undeniable. The CRU and GISS "” NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies"” are two of the four major repositories of temperature records in the world, the only two that show continuing warming and the two that the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change relies on for its forecasts of disaster.
Scientists from GISS are also implicated in the torquing of climate data revealed in the recent CRU leaks. This is not surprising given that the head of GISS, James Hansen, is Al Gore's science guru. He testified on behalf of environmental terrorists who attacked a U.K. electrical station, saying they should not be convicted because their vandalism was in the public interest. He has called coal trains "death trains."�
Nevertheless, delegates in the Danish capital have practically glossed over the CRU "Climategate"� leaks. That's partly because they refuse to let the facts get in the way of their cause, but it's mostly because Copenhagen isn't about climate change as a physical phenomenon, but rather climate change as an opportunity to regulate people's lives and incomes on a global scale.
It's about carbon taxes on rich countries to raise money for the UN to give to poorer countries, regardless of whether that has any impact on climate. It's about international bureaucrats regulating business and personal decisions in the name of saving the planet. And it's about giving the outward appearance of caring, about patting one another on the back for the deep moral superiority they are demonstrating as climate campaigners.
So what if the CRU emails and code files are full of instructions about where to insert the artificial corrections to real scientific data to make that data produce scary looking graphs showing catastrophic warming? Who cares if the climate record, without the artificial corrections, shows the current warming is not the greatest warming of the past 8,000 years, or even the second- or third-, but the fourth-greatest?
This is about implementing carbon taxes or cap-and-trade schemes or building huge carbon sequestration systems "” more to prove we care than to clear the air.
Without the CRU, the climate crusade is just so much symbolism over substance. But since symbolism is the whole point of Copenhagen, no one there cares.

Thank you, Lorne. Please do not let up on this subject. Judging from reader response to other articles, most Canadians have been so thoroughly brainwashed by the eco-doom mongers and climate alarmists that reason and common sense must be shouted to the heavens just to be heard.

Unfortunately, the new world order plans were drawn up years past but - they forgot Canadians can think for themselves and they will not take this financial mayhem lightly - particularly the west. Our ancestors came to this country for freedom from financial tyranny and the hopes of a better life. I have a problem with the theme of this article. Mr. Gunter is venerating an illegal act and attaching to the alleged email proof of the so called Climategate. Remember it is very easy to creat false email, hacking is immoral and illegal. Yet Mr. Gunter is using this alleged information most immorally.
If there is any conspiracy it is the deniers who don't want to do anything who are doing the conspiring.
Our PM has known this all along, which is why up to now, he and his government have resisted scams like Kyoto and Copenhagen. I am confident that, unlike his Liberal predecessors, he will stand firm in his convictions andf not sell us out to the eurosocialist movement. As I've said here many times before: what part of "THIS ISN'T EUROPE" don't they get???
The sad thing is the political left have hyjacked environmental issues for two decades and as a result they've learned how to profit from statis environmental policies instead of improving the environment. Copenhagen is an extension of the warm-mongers and econut's greed. If they cared about the planet they'd stop the insult to real science via the UN cabul and actually work towards cleaning up our air, water and soil but instead these greedy lying buggers want to profit from carbon credits and carbon taxes.
The eco-scammers have a well oiled machine to disseminate their fear mongering.

Simply telling people around me the facts about the scam has not produced enough momentum in my neck of the woods. Half the people disregard my words, a quarter are swayed and the rest will 'think about it'. As I sure that others here have done the same, however we need more!
