Still Time to Foil Iran's Bomb Plot

The bloody events of recent days in Iran have demonstrated the repressive nature of the regime and the deep discontent surfacing in a country denied democratic freedoms. A government that can only stay in power by shooting its own people in the streets and blocking their communication with the outside world is in serious trouble.

We in the West cannot determine the outcome of Iran's internal power struggle. But we must do our utmost in 2010 to deal with the fact that Iran's leaders are not only the cause of potential upheaval in their own country: they are also pursuing a nuclear programme that presents one of the greatest threats to the peace of the wider world.
