As readers will know, I approach opinion polls with some caution, whether they are “good” or “bad”. There is something about them which reminds me of Banquo’s warning about the witches he and Macbeth encountered on the heath: “Oftentimes, to win us to our harm/ the instuments of darkness tell us truths;/ Win us with honest trifles, to betray us/ In deepest consequence.”
