Stephen Harper, ensuring himself a ringside seat, got frequent TV exposure clad in a bomber jacket with Canada spelled across his chest and sitting with Gordie Howe and the Great One. Poor Jack Layton had to jostle at a Toronto bar to be seen watching the hockey finals on TV and Michael Ignatieff had to settle for penning an academic paean to the athletes on the opinion page of the Globe and Mail – 36 hours after the fact.
