That judgment may yet be the epitaph to Nick Clegg, star of one of the strangest Westminster dramas ever screened. As Cleggolatry builds, with the Lib Dems leading some opinion polls, the question is how long the nation's idol can maintain his status.

Britain has spent far less time choosing a political magus than Andrew Lloyd Webber devotes to picking a Dorothy. This week sees round two of Westminster's Got Talent, with the three party leaders in their televised debate on foreign policy. Mr Clegg will be hoping that Britain's world role offers him an even better chance to eclipse the others.
