In the fashion of the times, I agree with Nick. No outcome of the election could be more monstrous than the Prime Minister remaining in his post. I would feel that even if, by some aberration, the people were to choose such a result, and give Labour a majority. But my gob would be more smacked than I can articulate if that were to happen. We haven't had a campaign, of course – just a few telly programmes – but we didn't need one to form the key conclusion about the state of our politics: that the Government to which we are preparing to say farewell is the most abominable in living memory, exceeding even John Major's and Ted Heath's in its destructiveness, stupidity, dishonesty and incompetence.
