Similar jubilation also greeted Kevin Rudd's recent conquest of Everest. It's got something to do with the nature of enthusiasm. It's infectious. But it doesn't always last, especially when the object of that enthusiasm tries his best to deflate his followers' triumphal and expansive mood. It's hard to see the affection disappearing so fast for Gillard.
