The Americans entered Iraq without a clear-cut plan, at least on the political level. They thought that it would suddenly become a peaceful nation, which would embrace a democratic government as soon the “regime of mass graves”, symbolised by Saddam Hussein, was toppled.
Will the Americans, now led by the US President Barack Obama, leave Iraq better off than when they invaded? Or will they be the perpetrators of an even greater disaster than the one that has already befallen the region, thanks to the adventurism of George W Bush?
