Tony Abbott, having astonished even himself by replacing Malcolm Turnbull as Liberal leader, spent the first six months of this year preparing to do election battle with Kevin Rudd.
Suddenly, Abbott and his team have been forced to consign their campaign plans to the same shadows that have enveloped Rudd, or at least to revise them.
