Civilian supremacy over the military is becoming firmly established. All this is good news for Turkish democracy. To be sure, there will still be dissenting voices arguing that what is being consolidated is not Turkish democracy but the authoritarian rule of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In fact, such a narrative about Turkey prevails not only in significant segments of Turkish society but also in important parts of the Washington foreign policy establishment.
