According to a new report issued by the U.S. Geological Survey, there are an estimated 3.4 trillion cubic meters of undiscovered, recoverable natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin. In terms of the size of these gas reserves, Brenda Pierce of the USGS said that the potential is larger than anything that has been assessed in the United States.
For Israel, the potential value of the gas reserves in the basin is hundreds of billions of dollars, which makes this the most valuable natural resource that Israel has at its disposal.a
