China? What China? Cross-strait relations have become a non-issue in Taiwan, going by the simmering campaign for next month's mayoral elections that are seen as a warm-up for the 2012 presidential polls.
The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which has long fought for Taiwan's formal independence, is trying to sidestep cross-strait issues. Instead, it is focusing on matters such as law and order, sewage systems and traffic congestion.
