During the past week important developments have taken place in this context. Last Thursday nearly 200 active duty and retired military officers, including former chiefs of the air forces and the navy as well as dozens of generals and admirals, went on trial on charges of plotting to overthrow the elected government in 2003 under a plan codenamed Sledgehammer.
