The federal Conservatives are running for re-election on the basis of their management of the economy. Problem is, they don’t actually manage the economy. Nobody does. The economy mainly manages itself, though governments sometimes screw it up. So the Conservatives will be running on their record of not having screwed things up too badly. In fact, it would be nice to see some ads that made that very argument. Canadians, a modest and pragmatic lot, would appreciate and reward modest and pragmatic talk like that.
