By midnight tonight, we will know whether tonight’s vote will go down in history as a watershed election. That’s not how this campaign started of course: 37 days ago, no one predicted that Jack Layton might be the next tenant of Stornoway, that the NDP could supplant the Bloc Quebecois as the “home team” in Quebec, and that the mighty Liberal Party would be reduced to a shadow of its usual self.
