Barely have we set out on this expedition than we are struck by an immediate puzzle: in a prolonged election battle the outcome of which is now hailed as the united expression of the people's will in Scotland, there was discussion neither on the definition of independence end goal, nor on any of its constituent parts. Indeed, on the prime distinguishing feature that separates the SNP from all the other parties, there was little public examination at all.
