West Should Rejoice at Gaddafi's Fall

Dictatorship provides, among other things, a powerful, perverted aesthetic (never forget that Hitler was an art college reject). With his cloaks and sunglasses and funny hats and shock of curls, Gaddafi was a tyrant for the age of rock and roll. In the first Ken Livingstone era (after he became Labour leader of the Greater London Council in 1981), Gaddafi was a funky revolutionary for the Maggie! Maggie! Maggie! Out! Out! Out! people. Indeed, you could argue that it was only when he began to look like a cross between Ozzy Osbourne and Michael Jackson that he fell from favour.
