Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda will be Japan's new prime minister. He was on Monday elected the Democratic Party of Japan's (DPJ's) new party president through a ballot in which 398 DPJ parliamentarians participated. He received 215 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Banri Kaieda, who received 177 votes. Given that the DPJ holds a majority in the lower house of parliament, its new president will be endorsed as prime minister on Tuesday.
