Edward Snowden is the most wanted man in America – so they say. He has been charged with espionage and the theft of secret documents which, the US government contends, constitute a threat to national security. The official demands that he be extradited from Hong Kong, and then from Russia, to stand trial for these alleged crimes have been brazenly and insultingly flouted. And yet, Barack Obama has announced that he has not – and has no intention of – making any personal intervention in this humilating farrago.
