Protesters in Darjeeling, a tea-producing mountainous town in West Bengal in northern India, have stepped up calls for their own separate state of Gorkhaland, promising strikes and protests until their demands are met, after New Delhi gave the green-light to create Telangana state out of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, in the south of the country.
