Ahmadinejad Cooked Iran's Economic Books

Iran’s new president, Hassan Rohani, inherited an economy that is adapting reasonably well to the impact of international sanctions by working around embargoes while enhancing exports of natural gas, petrochemicals, and small electronics. And, Tehran stock market is still flourishing as investors display exuberance for real change. Yet Rohani has much cause for concern. A series of recent reports paint a very bleak picture of Iran’s economic health despite those gains. It is increasingly clear that former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s administration had been cooking the books on overall domestic progress for the past 8 years.
