Africans Souring on 'Presidents for Life'

Last week’s ouster of the long-serving president of Burkina Faso in a popular uprising is a warning to the “presidents-for-life” in Africa that a new awakening sweeping the continent will soon catch up with them.

In a huge blow for democracy, Blaise Compaore, one of the so-called strongmen of Africa, who has ruled the impoverished West African country for 27 years, was chased out by thousands of people who took to the streets to protest his plans to amend the constitution and extend his rule.
