Discoveries of oil deposits in the pre-salt layer should be a blessing for the country. Unfortunately, politicians have propensity to see Petrobras’s potential huge earnings from those fields as a source of their own benefits. They have to change their attitudes towards the state-controlled company. If they do not, deepwater oil deposits may become Brazil’s curse.
