UK Party Manifestos: Read Between Lines

The last Conservative manifesto was launched in a windswept wasteland masquerading as an irreplaceable part of our industrial heritage. For some reason the Tories chose Battersea Power Station as the venue for their bid for office in 2010. Doubtless it was intended to look edgy and postmodernist but all it did was invite unfortunate comparisons and snide comments. Opponents saw the decrepit building as a symbol of how the public services would look after a Tory term – hollowed out and unable to perform their basic functions.
