Embattled former European Parliament President Martin Schulz has resigned as the head of Germany's Social Democrats. Andrea Nahles has been nominated to take his place, but she still faces a party vote in April.
Martin Schulz announced on Tuesday that he was giving up his position as the head of Germany's Social Democrats (SPD) effective immediately.
The failed chancellor candidate and former head of the European Parliament made the decision after days of personnel debates within the SPD.
