The protesters' demands were, with minor exceptions, limited to the austerity measures. Jordanians also protested corruption, and some asked for the establishment of a commission to tackle that problem. But the largely peaceful demonstrations have not called for a change in the political system and remain centered on matters of bread and butter. Bread subsidies themselves have been scrapped, and electricity and other fuel prices have been climbing steeply.
