Why They Fight

As the U.S. and its democratic allies and partners face an array of consequential national security threats, the rules-based world order continues to hang in the balance. Russia's war in Ukraine underscores, among other things, the urgency of boosting Taiwan's military readiness. Meanwhile, many Americans remain bitterly divided on what role of the U.S. should be in the world, and, therefore, on how strong America's military power ought to be.
