When Donald Trump won the 2024 election, bringing self-identified postliberal J.D. Vance into the White House, friends told me that James M. Patterson and I needed to change the name of our upcoming book. It was to be called Why Postliberalism Failed, a play on the title of Patrick Deneen’s book Why Liberalism Failed.
