A Violent Confrontation in the South China Sea

China Coast Guard (CCG) personnel injured a Philippine service member in a clash near the Philippine-occupied Second Thomas Shoal. PRC-Philippine hostilities in the South China Sea have escalated around the tenth anniversary of the 2016 arbitral ruling that found the PRC’s “historic claims” in the sea to have no basis in international law.
