Run for President and Win

The last former secretary of state to become president was James Buchanan, when he was inaugurated in 1857. Only five other former secretaries have gone on to become president. Four of the five have close ties to the nation's founding. They are Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and John Quincy Adams. The other one is Martin Van Buren. (Photo: Wikipedia)
